I'm happy that you're bringing the cost of pet ownership to light since most people do not consider that when thinking of bringing home a cute dog or puppy.

That being said, it sounds like your cats cost much more than the average feline friends. One of your cats is overweight and requires special food. One had surgery this year. These are not "average" pet expenses. I have two cats, and they cost $20 a month in regular expenses (litter, food, supplies). Vet visits cost $52 each, which amounts to $104 for the year if no medical conditions arise. (The only "problem" I've had with either cat was an eye infection that cost $140 at the vet, if I remember correctly.)

That's $344 for the entire year. Of course, if you're first getting a cat, you'll have start-up costs like cat carriers, a litter box, food/water bowls and toys. But I think $1,385 is a very high estimate for the average cat owner.

I just wanted to say great! I was searching on some different forums when I found this site. After looking around on your website I've come up with some great ideas for a new site. I just thought I'd let you know

Cats, dogs, and other pets, are kind of like kids, wives, and husbands. If you added up all the spending you do for each of them, you would be astounded. But the joy they bring into our lives is priceless! :)

Something to perhaps think about for feeding your cats:

The Primal Diet for Cats: http://www.marksdailyapple.com/natural-cat-diet/

Seems to make even more sense than the Primal Blueprint for us.

I don't have pets because I'm highly allergic, but my brother has a dog. He must have spent about $30k by now (she had a bad hip) and she still has another 9 years to go! (She's 9 years old now).

Anyway, I find pets to be very expensive, but from everyone I know, they love their animals because they provide so much companionship and love.
