I think it was worth it. My big problem is mainly my chronic fatigue. There are times when it is simply not an option for me to wait around. Though that does nowadays give me incentive to throw a (polite) fit if I'm ignored. Nothing like informing a store manager that their employees' lax attitudes toward customer service has essentially endangered a customer's health. (If I push too far, I can often have trouble leaving the apartment for a day or two at a time.)

I try not to play that card unless it's a serious issue, but it's a good ace up my sleeve, as they say. Sadly, some people don't care about wasting your time until you make it clear just how bad it will look if/when you write a letter to the parent company.

At any rate, I generally try to stay around and argue for things, if necessary. But when I get home to discover an error, I pretty much have to live with it. I always mean to go back the next day and deal with it. It just doesn't happen. I suppose it's an added cost of living with chronic health problems.

The silver lining is that I pay very close attention to register readouts and to receipts BEFORE leaving the store.

I would have gone back to one of the registers. And at all the places I've been, store policy requires that there's someone watching the self-check at all times. I find I do better going through normal checkout - the cashier can usually do a manual override.

I would reconsider going to a store that was so lax on service. I do better at my local Walmart than what you describe.

I definitely would have waited around too... did you put complain for having to wait around though? You should have been served before that employee went on break!
