Michelle, that's an iffy situation in my eyes. While working in the court system, it was not uncommon to encounter judges and older attorneys who felt it was entirely inappropriate for a woman to be wearing pants in such a professional setting. The skirt suit was a much more professional option. Sexist? Yes. But as long as it's only an issue in the interview and in big meetings, I'll suck it up and wear the skirt and get the sweet job that I want.

what a good reminder - and might I add the following? I recommend a pants-suit for women if their body-style can 'accomodate' (i.e., look good in it). If you haven't scoped out an office to see the tone and culture and aren't sure how dressy/formal it is, a pants suit is a great middle of the road option. Monochromatic skirt suits can be almost too formal. Last time I wore one (dark grey) to an interview, it happened to be on 'casual Friday' and my interviewers were all in jeans - the one lady on the panel indicated I was overdressed, Wha-at?!
