How much to spend on the holidays?

On the Today Show yesterday (I was home sick), Jean Chatsky said that you should spend no more than 1 1/2% of your annual salary on the holidays.  It was during a conversation about gift buying, so I am assuming that’s on only gifts and not on travel.

Wal-Mart Cuts Prices for Christmas

I missed this last year, but in 2008, Wal-Mart cut prices on 10 “popular” toys, selling them for $10 each.  This year, they’re selling 100 toys for $10 each.  This includes things from board games to Transformers to Barbies to Play-Doh.
