Here are some ideas from Australia that I just had to show you.
- A visual calculator that helps you add up how much you will need in retirement is here.
- Ever wondered how to save more $? Try this (just so you know, they call 401(k) Super in Australia)
- Some unique home loan calculators from HSBC.
In one of the calculators I tried giving up one cup of coffee per day and it quickly showed me how that released over $1200 for my 401(k) with a tax benefit that gives me back my coffee on the weekends! Now that is talking my language.
Or what about this calculator trick. An inheritance spent paying off the rest of my housing debt drops my income needs so much that I can push funds into 401(k), gain a tax concession and take a holiday. I might even visit Australia to meet all their calculator builders!
That’s the thing about looking at overseas sites sometimes. Different countries look at things different ways. If you are stuck for an idea someday it can help. Just remember to check the tax rates at home before you get too excited.
The only time I’ve had a problem was trying an overseas global warming calculator. It seems every country does them differently because their energy comes from different sources so you really need a local calculator to get it right.
