Too many people these days think that the only way to make a living is to lock yourself into a 9-to-5 job. If you make money from home, it’s usually seen as something you do “on the side.” But that doesn’t have to be the case. There are many viable ways to make a reliable income from home—and many of them allow you to be your own boss. Check out the list below for a few suggestions.
Start an Online Business
This might sound like a daunting concept, but it doesn’t have to be. You don’t need a degree in business or be a marketing expert for this to be possible. If you have a marketable skill, you can turn that into a viable business to provide you with a livable income. Do you crochet adorable hats for your kids? Sell them on Etsy. Have an eye for graphic design? Create and sell printable images for home décor, or offer your design services on a freelance basis. If you have a sellable skill, it can become a viable business, provided you put in a little time and effort.
Become a Business Consultant
When people think about starting their own businesses, they think it’s something that requires an office and equipment and a lot of other complexities. But that doesn’t have to be the case. Millions of people around the world have started their entrepreneurial journeys by becoming business consultants, and it’s not as difficult as you might think.
Business consulting is something that you can learn to do in a relatively short amount of time, provided you have some basic skills and self-discipline. You don’t need to spend years at a university, paying through the nose for a degree. With some professional training and a few courses, you can get a business going from right out of your own home and begin making a living as your own boss.
Build an App
Have a killer idea for a new app? Whether it’s a business tool, game, or another type of app, this can be a viable way to make consistent income. The great part about is, once the initial creation of the app is done, there’s not much else for you to do. You may need to work out bugs and handle any user issues that pop up, but for the most part, the app you build will become passive income.
Now, you’re probably thinking, “I’m not a programmer. I can’t build an app.” But the fact is, all you need to get started is an idea. Multi-millionaire Sam Ovens got his start in the business world by creating a business tool called SnapInspect. He was not a programmer, but with some sketches and a simple prototype-building app, he was able to create a prototype of his app that was in-depth enough for him to sell $5,000 worth of his product before he’d even had the app built.
He was then able to pay a programmer to create the app, and now has a successful business that provides him with consistent income, all because of the idea he had for a simple business app.
Again, you might think that teaching English is something you need a specialized degree for, but that’s not the case. There are many internet-based businesses out there that are always on the hunt for native English speakers to teach their language to students in other countries. Obviously, you’ll have to stick to their schedule to teach your students, but it is all done from home via your web camera.
These jobs generally offer very good pay that could feasibly provide you with a livable income, provided you can offer them enough hours and teach enough courses. Check out websites like VIP Kid to see if spots are available for online English teachers.
Well it might seem like an elusive goal, living an income from home is become the norm for more and more people each day. You could be one of them. Do you earn money from home? Share how you do it and give us your pro tips!
