Tired of Being Broke? 5 Easy Ways to Make Money in College

April 17, 2020 By Susan Paige Leave a Comment

If others can do it, you can too. If you’re always worried about where to get money or how to pay for things, here are 5 easy ways to make money in college.

College can be tough, and it’s even worse when you’re broke. If only there were some easy ways to make money in college, right? It would make life so much simpler.

Fortunately, you needn’t be broke for much longer. Whether you want to sell things college students need or offer your services in another way, there are some great ways to make money in college. As it turns out, around 70 to 80 percent of students have a job of some sort, so keep reading for some of the best options if you’d like to join them.

  1. Sell Your Textbooks

If you have textbooks you no longer need, you can get rid of them and make some money at the same time. Selling your textbooks can be a great way to earn some extra income on the side by selling to college students who could make use of your old reading material.

  1. Start Tutoring

If you’re still thinking of selling to college students, and there’s a subject you’re particularly confident in, one way to make money as a college student is to either tutor fellow peers who might need a hand, or teach kids at middle or high school if they need help in something you’re skilled at. Check with your college to see if they can help you get started, while there are plenty of websites that you can sign up to and offer your services out.

  1. Find a Job On-Campus

One of the best aspects about working on-campus is that your job is less likely to interfere with your studies; your employers know how important college is to you, and won’t be pressuring you to work the sort of hours you might be expected to in a store or restaurant.

  1. Drive or Deliver Food

Do you own a car? If so, this opens up a load of new opportunities! You can set your own hours on the likes of Uber and Lyft, so you know it won’t mess up your college schedule.

Alternatively or alongside this, you can deliver food with UberEats, Postmates, or DoorDash – you don’t always need a car for this, as sometimes a bike will be fine. There are also sites like TaskRabbit on which you can sign up to run errands and carry out various tasks for local people in return for a fee.

  1. Find Temporary or Freelance Work

If you’re looking for work but don’t feel like working in retail or on campus, you might decide to get in touch with a local employment agency to see if any temporary jobs are available. This could be admin work, something manual, or another job, so you’re likely to find something that appeals to you.

On top of this, you could always freelance if you have a skill like writing or designing. Try offering your services on a content marketplace like Upwork or Fiverr and see if anyone might be interested in what you can do.

Other Easy Ways to Make Money in College

If these don’t take your fancy, or you’re looking for more ways to supplement your income, there are a number of other things to try. You may be able to become a brand ambassador, or do some pet-sitting, or even take part in research trials. The opportunities are endless!
