I will admit, I didn’t buy into the leggings craze at first. I was adamant that leggings weren’t pants. (And if they are see-through, I still argue that they are not pants.) But it turns out that leggings are very popular and for good reason. They’re comfortable and you can get them in all sorts of styles. And since everyone seems to be buying them, one thing you might be considering is starting up a lucrative leggings business.
Don’t Join an MLM
First and foremost, avoid any MLM leggings business. LuLaRoe is the most notorious, known for their “buttery soft leggings.” Not only are their business practices terrible and unlikely to be a lucrative leggings business for you, you’re likely to lose money. I’ve written quite a bit about them in the past, and not only are MLMs terrible scams, the leggings LuLaRoe sells may have been quality at one point, but the quality decreased significantly, to the point where they tended to tear after only a few wearings.
There are other legging MLMs out there as well. Avoid them.
Start a Dropshipping Leggings Business
The easiest way to start a lucrative leggings business is to use dropshipping. There are a number of wholesale companies out there that will drop ship for you. Basically, what that means is that you setup a storefront, and when someone orders from you, your site places the order with the wholesale company, who ships the product for you. Your profit? The difference between what you charge the customer and what the drop shipper charges you.
One popular company that people like for drop shipping is Oberlo. Most of their leggings cost under $10 and you can easily sell for around $30, so your profit is pretty good This is one good way to start a lucrative leggings business.
Buy Leggings in Bulk
Another option is to purchase leggings from a wholesaler to sell yourself. This does require an output of some cash so you can build up stock, but people might be more likely to buy from you if they can see images of you modeling them, or even get to check out the product in person. You can also use a site like Leggings Wholesale, which even offers a look book without prices, so your customers can check out the wares online, and then you can order and deliver.
Design Your Own
If you really want to put out something special, consider designing your own leggings! One way to build a lucrative leggings business is to put your own designs onto leggings with a company like Printful. You can create some really cute looks that are unique and only your customers will be able to buy.
Megan is a 40-something government employee in the Washington, DC area. She got interested in Personal Finance when she got out of college and realized that her paycheck wasn’t going to go as far as she had hoped. Since starting this blog, she has managed to buy a house and make a solid start on her retirement goals, and hopes to help others do the same. Here is her story:
In 2007, I was a gainfully employed 20-something with no debt but not a lot of knowledge about personal finance. It was a co-worker’s comment about Roth IRAs that sent me to the internet, searching for information. It was then that I realized that I really didn’t know a whole lot about personal finance and that my current financial situation was due a lot to inherent frugal tendencies, generous family members, a fear of debt, and good luck. While that was working for me, clearly I needed a better plan.
While I had no debt, I was also pretty much living paycheck to paycheck and not worrying about going over budget (I say this as if I had a real budget) because I had an emergency fund set aside to cover any overages.
Except that’s not what an emergency fund is for.
So I did a lot of research, read a lot of blogs, and decided that I needed a plan. I needed to budget. I needed to know what I was spending my money on. I needed to prepare for the future.
I decided to create a blog not only to make myself accountable to others but also to share the knowledge that I gained along the way. I’ve learned so much from my fellow bloggers, and I hope that my readers can find something useful in what I have to share as well.
